Santiago City, Valparaiso, Viña del Mar, San Pedro Atacama
Day 1 - Arrival to Santiago de Chile and City Tour You will be met at the Santiago Airport by a Bucket List Destinations representative and transferred to your comfortable hotel in Santiago. Check in and overnight in Santiago Hotel. Today, you will head out on a half day historical tour of Santiago to visit some of the most interesting sites in Santiago and learn about the fascinating history of Chile and its capital. You will start the tour driving up the Santa Lucia hill where Santiago was founded. You will then continue on to the historic downtown, Plaza de Armas (Main Square), where some of Santiago’s historic buildings stand. You will see the Cathedral, City Hall, Central Post Office, and National Historical Museum. You will then drive to the civic area to see the Moneda Presidential Palace, current seat of the Chilean government. The tour will continue through charming streets lined with 19th century buildings, passing the statue of Typical Zone, the Cousiño Palace, and the Basilica de los Sacramentinos (inspired by the Montmartre church in Paris). The tour will end on the Alameda Bernardo O’Higgins, Santiago’s main avenue where you will visit the San Francisco church and its beautiful colonial museum and monastery. You will have the remainder of the afternoon and evening to explore Santiago at your leisure. Try some delicious traditional Chilean cuisine in one of the restaurants, discover some of its exciting barrios and take advantage of the lively nightlife! overnight in Santiago Hotel.
Day 2 - Maipo Valley Wine Tour Today you will depart from Santiago and head towards the town of Pirque located in Maipo Valley, and ultimately reach the highly-acclaimed Viña Concha y Toro vineyards. Begin the tour with a walkthrough of the gardens from the late 19th century former summer residence of the Concha y Toro family. Discover more than 25 vafiatied of grapes all while having a beautiful panoramic view of the Maipo Valley. Finish the first part of the tour with a tasting of three wines from the Casillero del Diablo wine cellar. Then, head to Viña Santa Rita, where you will begin a guided tour of the varietal garden, vineyards, winemaking, aging process, and bottling process in the famous "Bodega 1" and Bodega de los 120 Patriotas." Transfer to your hotel and free evening at your leisure and overnight.
Day 3 - Valparaiso y Viña del Mar Tour. Explore Chile’s coastal cities with an exciting ValparaÃso and Viña del Mar Tour. These two charming towns are located a little more than an hour from Santiago. With its bohemian atmosphere, chaotic and colorful architecture, and lovely port, ValparaÃso is one of the most attractive cities in Chile. You will start your tour at the Mirador 21 de Mayo from where you will enjoy spectacular views of the entire city and bay. Next, you will visit the fascinating house-museum of the poet and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Pablo Neruda. Descend to ValparaÃso’s Prat Dock, where sailors embark and men scramble to load the enormous ships. After lunch, you will head out to Viña del Mar where you will enjoy a relaxing stroll down the quiet streets and picturesque beaches of this lovely coastal town. In the afternoon, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Santiago and have the evening free to explore more of the city’s exciting spots.
Day 4 - San Pedro Atacama y Valle de la luna tour. Enjoy breakfast at your Santiago hotel before setting out on your journey to San Pedro de Atacama. You will fly to the Calama Airport and meet a Latin America For Less Representative who will take you 60 miles (98km) to San Pedro de Atacama. You’ll settle into your San Pedro de Atacama hotel and get acclimated to the desert atmosphere before setting out on a tour of the wind-swept Valle de la Luna. Situated about 7.5 miles (12 km) from San Pedro, this valley boasts spectacular moon-like landscapes full of strange formations created by the wind’s erosion of the salt mountains. Sunset in Valle de la Luna is a truly magical and unforgettable experience. You’ll watch as a striking range of colors melts across the landscape. Climb up one of the dunes to get an even better view of the darkening valley and watch the stars appear. After sunset, you will return to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama and have the remainder of the evening to spend at your leisure.
Day 5 - Tatio Geyser Tour Rise before dawn and head out on a full day tour to the astonishing Tatio Geyser where you’ll witness an amazing natural phenomenon. Located at 14,760 feet (4,500 m) above sea level, this incredible geothermal field is surrounded by volcanoes and filled with geysers. You will get the chance to walk close to the geysers and their craters with a guide who will answer all your questions about this striking phenomenon. After a well-deserved breakfast next to the Tatio Geysers, you will explore the surrounding high plateau and its amazing fauna and flora. Unobstructed views of the impressive Tocorpuri and Sairecábur volcanoes will unfold before you, and you will be able to observe the native wildlife found in the wetlands. Keep your eyes open and try to spot the foxes, Vizcachas, and llamas that populate this wild landscape. In the afternoon, you will return to San Pedro de Atacama where you will be free to explore the village and its surroundings or rest at your hotel for the remainder of the day.
Day 6 - Tour to Toconao Village, Atacama salt flats and chaxa lagoon. After breakfast at your hotel, you will head south of San Pedro toward the oasis of Toconao, a verdant Andean village that manages to thrive in the middle of the barren Atacama Desert. The small colonial-style houses are made of white volcanic stone, and the town boasts a beautiful church with striking bell towers and a myriad of narrow alleys filled with small artisan workshops. You will continue on toward the fertile lands of the nearby Quebrada de Jere, a beautiful gorge where the fruit tree orchards and grazing cattle create a striking contrast with the dryness of the surrounding desert. Later on you will reach the impressive Atacama Salt Flats, the largest in Chile. Unlike most salt flats, which are smooth, the earth’s crust here is jagged like puzzle pieces, giving the area a striking and unusual appearance. The salt flat is home to many lagoons where pink and white flamingos are mirrored in the still salt water. You will have the chance to visit the sparkling Chaxa Lagoon, a beautiful protected area, where you can observe the birds from up close. Back in San Pedro, the evening will be free for you to rest in your comfortable hotel, explore the village, or try some delicious local cuisine.
